The Northwest Tourism Services Association of the Region of Murcia continues to advance the transformation of the territory’s tourism model with the acquisition of 48 electric bicycles destined for the municipalities of Bullas, Calasparra, Caravaca de la Cruz, Cehegín, Moratalla, and Mula.
The project entails an investment of €88,135.00 (VAT included) and is funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU funds, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

A commitment to more sustainable tourism
The addition of these bicycles will expand the range of active and nature-based tourism offerings in the municipalities of the Northwest, fostering more sustainable mobility alternatives and reducing reliance on private vehicles.
The supply addresses the need to equip the destination with the material resources required to develop a sustainable tourism mobility model, as well as to offer new tourism products, improve accessibility to attractions, and adapt to changing visitor demands.
The objectives of the initiative include reducing CO₂ emissions associated with tourism activity, creating new active tourism products, increasing the average length of visitor stays, promoting more accessible mobility, and enhancing the destination’s sustainable image.

Bicycles equipped for urban and nature routes
These are trekking or hybrid-style bicycles, designed for mixed use in both urban and natural settings and adapted for both paved roads and unpaved paths. Key specifications include a 250 W mid-drive motor with a minimum torque of 50 Nm, a battery with a capacity of at least 500 Wh, and an estimated minimum range of 100 kilometers under normal operating conditions. Additionally, the bicycles feature components designed to ensure user safety and comfort, such as front and rear lighting, a luggage rack, mudguards, a kickstand, a bell, reflectors, and an ergonomic saddle.

A resource for discovering the Northwest of the Region of Murcia
The bicycles may be used for various initiatives linked to promoting tourism in the area, including guided routes organized by tourist offices, ecotourism and active tourism programs, public or semi-public rental services, and environmental awareness activities.
In this way, the initiative will enable the creation of new tourism experiences linked to the natural, cultural, and landscape heritage of the six municipalities comprising the Association, while also promoting more environmentally friendly modes of travel.
The Northwest Tourism Services Association thus reinforces its commitment to sustainability, alternative mobility, and the creation of new tourism products, making new resources available to both visitors and the municipalities themselves to explore and enjoy the region in an active and sustainable way.
